Cooper Rush is the next quarterback up in Dallas.
"Obviously, it's early on a Monday. Certainly, we'll be evaluating all options," said Stephen Jones, VP of the Cowboys and son of owner Jerry Jones during a radio interview before expressing confidence in Cooper.
The 49ers have a quarterback they tried all offseason to trade. So would they be willing to send Jimmy Garoppolo to Dallas for some draft compensation? A reporter asked head coach Kyle Shanahan that question on Monday afternoon.
"Just like all players, we'll listen to anybody on anything," Shanahan responded. "That never changes for any player or coach. We'll always listen to anybody."
Or coach?
Shanahan was obviously having a little fun with the question there after providing his standard response to inquiries about trades.
After failing to find a trade partner, the 49ers signed Garoppolo to a restructured one-year contract that will keep him (unless there is a trade) with the team through the 2022 season and make him a free agent in 2023. There is a no-trade clause, but that just ensures that Garoppolo has veto power over potential destinations.
