"Gore, 39, was charged after police were dispatched to the Tropicana Atlantic City at 8:11 a.m. on July 31," wrote Branch. "The alleged victim, a 28-year-old woman from Miami, was speaking with hotel security when they arrived. The woman did not exhibit signs of injury and a complaint was not filed that day. Gore was charged after a resulting investigation.
"A simple assault charge in New Jersey carries up to six months in prison and a fine of $1,000. Gore is due for a hearing in mid-October, TMZ reported. Gore's longtime agent, Drew Rosenhaus, did not immediately respond to a request for comment."
Gore rushed for 11,073 yards through 10 seasons with San Francisco. His 16,000 career rushing yards rank third all-time in NFL history, with only Emmitt Smith (18,355) and Walter Payton (16,726) ranked above him.
The 49ers announced that Gore would become the 31st member in franchise history to be inducted into the Edward J. DeBartolo Sr. San Francisco 49ers Hall of Fame. That is set to take place during the 2022 season.
Gore signed a one-day contract with the 49ers on June 2, officially retiring with the team that drafted him in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft.
