The San Francisco 49ers released an "unofficial" depth chart before today's practice. Head coach Kyle Shanahan shared that people probably shouldn't read too much into it because not much thought goes into it. The 49ers Communications staff compiles it, not the coaching staff, so Shanahan may not have even seen it.

Jake Brendel is competing with Daniel Brunskill for the starting center job. So why is Brendel listed as the starter?

"Because we had to put one there," Shanahan explained.

One other position group stood out. With Lance solidified as the starting quarterback, the depth chart lists Nate Sudfeld and Brock Purdy behind him. Fourth on the list, however, is Jimmy Garoppolo, who isn't expected to be on the roster come Week 1.

"He's not in meetings. He's not doing all that stuff," Shanahan said. "So he's just doing what I said he's been doing. I think if he's on the depth chart, it's because you have to be. I think all 90 guys on our roster do. We have 91, actually."

Shanahan was also asked if there have been any trade discussions involving the veteran quarterback.

"I believe that goes on with his agents, but none that I hear of," Shanahan shared.

For now, Garoppolo remains on the 49ers roster (and depth chart) but has not been practicing with the team. Instead, he has been building his throwing stamina on the side, often seen doing so as his soon-to-be-former teammates practice. The veteran quarterback appears focused on preparing for the next stop on his NFL journey.
