What's the deal with the $1.95 million in incentives? ESPN's Adam Schefter provided some details. Samuel can earn the extra money by hitting a specific mark in rushing yards each season. That means the 49ers could continue using Samuel as a part-time running back in Kyle Shanahan's offense, which the head coach said was not off the table on Monday.
Pro Football Talk first reported that Samuel would receive $650,000 in yearly incentives. Schefter reports that the star wideout will need to reach 380 rushing yards per season to earn that money. He had 365 through his 16 games last season.
Samuel will also earn $150,000 if he scores three rushing touchdowns in any single season. He had eight in 2021, setting a single-season NFL record for a wide receiver.
