Cowherd reported on Lance's arm fatigue and issues with recovery, to which Silver acknowledged he heard the same reports.
"[Lance's] delivery, [the 49ers] are kind of rebuilding it," Cowherd said to Silver. "He gets arm fatigue. It's not an easy throw. He needs days off, and they're worried about his accuracy."
Of course, many of the arm concerns were from Lance's rookie season, much of which he spent injured. However, all reports from this offseason have indicated that the 22-year-old quarterback looks much improved. Silver later tweeted that there is a lot to get excited about concerning Lance. The young player is intelligent, athletic, and potentially has a high ceiling.
Lance also has a strong arm. However, according to Silver, some concerns may remain.
"If you've seen Trey Lance practice now for a whole year, I believe this is what you think if you're Kyle (Shanahan) and the 49ers coaches," Silver shared. "In fact, I know. You think he is really smart. We love that. He is athletically awesome. He has a great arm. We're not sure that he can take that great arm and throw that ball in those tight spaces really accurately. So that's the only reason, I think, deep in his heart, Kyle may want to hedge because your team is [built to win] now."
This isn't the first time this offseason that the topic of "arm fatigue" has been brought up. In May, CBS broadcaster and analyst Ryan Harris, a former NFL offensive lineman, discussed concern about Lance's arm fitness.
"From players I've talked to and coaches who I've talked to who are at the 49ers," Harris said, "Trey Lance is really leaving a lot to be desired in terms of the fitness of his arm, whether or not he can digest the playbook, and can really start to process the game at a high level."
Harris went on to predict that Garoppolo, not Lance, would be the 49ers' Week 1 starter against the Chicago Bears.
Lance has taken all the first-team reps at quarterback during OTA's and mini-camp as Garoppolo rehabs from shoulder surgery and is ready to become San Francisco's starter, according to Shanahan.
