Last year, San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle became the first-ever recipient of the Dwight Clark Legacy Award. It's an honor presented to a 49ers player who best exemplifies the late receiver's spirit of teamwork.

According to Steve Young, this year's recipient will be defensive lineman Arik Armstead. The Hall of Fame quarterback revealed the news on Wednesday morning during KNBR's Murph & Mac show.


Of course, the guest list on the website for the June 1 event, the Dwight Clark Legacy Series, likely hinted that Armstead would be the recipient. The defender is the only current 49ers player listed as an attendee. He will join a panel including Steve Young, Bryant Young, Terrell Owens, Charles Haley, and Patrick Willis at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek.

Bryant Young will also be honored at the event as he prepares to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton.

"The Dwight Clark Legacy Series is an annual event featuring themed roundtable conversations with former and current 49ers, and the presentation of the Dwight Clark Award," describes the event's website.

The Dwight Clark Legacy Series will be hosted by Matt Maiocco and Laura Britt of NBC Sports Bay Area and include a "state of the team" discussion with 49ers general manager John Lynch.
