Beckham made waves by tweeting that he was breaking the news on a Deebo Samuel trade. Within minutes, NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported the information as "not true." Several hours later, Beckham himself recanted the tweet, apologizing for "giving [Deebo] hell," but went on to insinuate that news on Samuel's contract dispute with the 49ers may break on its own soon regardless.
With Samuel having asked for a trade less than two weeks before the draft, media speculation about the self-proclaimed wide back's status reached such a frenzy that even other NFL players were getting roped in. Before the draft, a falsified conversation between Deebo and Seattle Seahawks strong safety Jamal Adams circulated until Deebo himself stepped in to deny that it had occurred.
OBJ may have used this as inspiration for a bit of organizational gamesmanship, attempting to stir up the 49ers fanbase or get Deebo's camp to reveal any information on the closely-guarded negotiations that have taken place so far. It may have given the Niner Faithful a start, but as of the conclusion of the 2022 NFL Draft, the reality is that Deebo Samuel remains a 49er.
