The San Francisco 49ers drafted "Mr. Irrelevant" in 2022, selecting Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy with the 262th pick in the seventh round to finish out the 2022 NFL Draft.

Despite rostering Jimmy Garoppolo, Trey Lance, and Nate Sudfeld at the quarterback position, the 49ers drafted another quarterback, taking the Iowa State product as a seventh-round pick.

Now, many may be questioning why the 49ers selected a quarterback in the draft, with three already on the roster.

Purdy was likely a practice-squad target for the team who could potentially compete with Nate Sudfeld for the backup quarterback spot behind Trey Lance, but would've been either more expensive as an undrafted free agent or unavailable, due to the expected market for him following the draft.

With Purdy, the 49ers get an experienced college quarterback who best excels in a play-action schemed offensive system due to his lack of significant arm strength, who was fairly accurate during his time at Iowa State.

The move only further signifies that the 49ers likely plan to move on from quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, as the 49ers have a succession plan in place with multiple other quarterbacks on the roster, be it via trade or a cut.

With Purdy being the final pick for the 49ers in the 2022 NFL Draft, here is an outlook of the entire draft class:

Round 2, pick 61: EDGE Drake Jackson(USC)
Round 3, pick 93: RB Tyrion Davis-Price(LSU)
Round 3, pick 105: WR Danny Gray(SMU)
Round 4, pick 134: OL Spencer Burford(UTSA)
Round 5, pick 172: CB Samuel Womack(Toledo)
Round 6, pick 187: OL Nick Zakelj(Fordham)
Round 6, pick 220: DT Kalia Davis(UCF)
Round 6, pick 221: CB Tariq Castro-Fields(Penn State)
Round 7, pick 262: QB Brock Purdy(Iowa State)
