According to Peter Schrager of Good Morning Football, the general feeling around the league is that the 49ers have no intention of trading Samuel, despite the receiver reportedly hoping to move.
"I've texted a lot of the GMs of those teams that are mentioned [to be potential landing spots for Samuel]," Schrager said, "and you could list them 12 deep, and they're like, 'They're not trading Deebo Samuel. Kyle would never trade him. He's too important.'"
Samuel is extremely valuable to the 49ers, who look to start second-year quarterback Trey Lance this season. Taking away the quarterback's best offensive weapon before his first season as a starter probably isn't the best way to hit the ground running.
Schrager commented he can't envision Samuel playing in another uniform, saying, "He should be a Forty-Niner."
The on-air analyst notes that, yes, Samuel has been good for the 49ers. However, the 49ers have been good for Samuel too. The 26-year-old receiver has flourished with Shanahan. Samuel had a breakout season in 2021, amassing 1,770 all-purpose yards and 14 total touchdowns, setting a record for the most single-season rushing touchdowns by a wide receiver with eight. That is why his value has skyrocketed.
Schrager added, "No team wants him more than the Niners."
