"As we hear it, 49ers G.M. John Lynch is telling interested teams that he has an offer in hand of two second-round picks for Garoppolo, a player the team acquired in 2017 for one second-round pick," Florio reported.
That's much more than anyone anticipated the team acquiring for the often-injured quarterback, especially after other seemingly less impressive quarterbacks filled spots around the league with quarterback-needy teams.
"At least one interested team reacted to the news, we're told, by concluding that, if the 49ers have two [second]-round picks for Garoppolo, they should take it," added Florio.
No one is going to argue with that. Yet, we're still awaiting a resolution to the situation. Could a trade be forthcoming? Which team might have presented such an offer? The obvious remaining quarterback-needy teams are the Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, and Houston Texans.
The Seattle Seahawks also seek a starting quarterback. However, it is less likely San Francisco would trade Garoppolo within the division—but not unthinkable.
Garoppolo is due to earn over $25 million in 2022, the final year of his contract, and is currently recovering from the shoulder surgery he underwent on March 8.
