Samuel is in his third NFL season, which means it's time to start thinking about a contract extension for the 25-year-old star. He's positioned himself to be among the highest-paid players at his position. However, Samuel is unique in that he does so much more than just playing wide receiver.
"Deebo's going to be well compensated, and we plan on him being a Niner for a long time," general manager John Lynch said Thursday on KNBR's Tolbert, Krueger & Brooks show. "When that happens, how that happens, I don't know. But yes, we are very aware of [the many ways he contributes to our offense], and his time's coming. I don't know when but his time will come."
Samuel is a foundational piece for the 49ers offense. This season, the former second-round pick and third-year player earned his first Pro Bowl selection.
Samuel became the seventh player in 49ers franchise history to register at least one rushing touchdown, one receiving touchdown, and one passing touchdown in the same season.
