The 49ers quarterback is recovering from a torn ligament and chipped bone in his right thumb, an injury sustained during Week 16 against the Tennessee Titans. Garoppolo was inactive this past Sunday against the Houston Texans. Rookie quarterback Trey Lance started in his place.
"I'm trying to get it back to my old motion where it's fluid and everything like that, but it will just take some time," Garoppolo said on Wednesday. "It's a process, but we're working in the right direction."
The 9-7 49ers are preparing for their regular-season finale against the Los Angeles Rams. A win would secure a playoff berth. A loss, coupled with a win by the New Orleans Saints, would knock them out of the playoff picture.
The 49ers and Rams are scheduled to kick off on Sunday afternoon from SoFi Stadium.
