In an alternate universe, Carlos Dunlap doesn't get his hand up high enough to block Jimmy Garoppolo's pass, and the San Francisco 49ers cut the Seattle Seahawks' lead to one in that Week 13 NFC West battle on Sunday.

Now, head coach Kyle Shanahan has a decision to make. Does he kick the extra point and head into overtime or go for the win and get the heck out of Lumen Field? On Monday, the 49ers coach spoke with reporters via a conference call and was asked if he would have gone for two had his team scored on that final drive.

"Um ... I feel like I ... I was planning on going for two," Shanahan responded, obviously hesitating to answer before realizing that there was no harm now in the admission. "That's how I felt, but then we'll see how I felt after that down too."

Shanahan was later asked what his thinking might have been going for two in that situation.

"I don't know," Shanahan said. "It's too much of a hypothetical, so I can't even promise you that I would have. I don't mind talking about it, but I'd be just making stuff up."

So, maybe in an alternate universe, the 49ers win a thriller over the Seahawks by a score of 31-30.
