Head coach Kyle Shanahan informed reporters that Samuel and Warner would undergo MRIs to determine the severity of the injuries. While Samuel was clearly disheartened by his injury, the coach sounded optimistic that it may not be a serious setback.
"I think he was just disappointed," Shanahan said. "We have no idea what it's going to be like. I don't think it's as bad as you worry. We're hoping it's a little strain, and he feels that it might be. He felt it.
"That's what happened to Deebo in the first play of the game versus Washington last year. I think it's what happened to him in the first quarter versus New England. You can tell when he feels something, he stops right away. That's why I knew right away, on the first step of that, that something was there.
"But by the time he got to the sidelines, you feel like you saved a real bad injury, and we'll have to find out tomorrow."
Like Shanahan, Samuel didn't sound too concerned about the injury.
"My groin got kind of tight once I went to make a move," the receiver explained after the game. "So, I was just like, 'Let's not make nothing any worse.' And that's why I just went down. ... Not too much concerned. I've got an MRI and stuff in the morning, and we'll just go see how it goes."
Shanahan added that linebacker Dre Greenlaw left the game with a groin injury. In addition, running back Trey Sermon suffered an ankle injury, and the 49ers coach sounded more concerned about it compared to the others.
"His looked a little worse," Shanahan said of Sermon's injury. "But I don't know yet. We'll find out tomorrow."
Defensive end Nick Bosa and linebacker Marcell Harris were examined for head injuries but cleared.
