Trent Williams wasn't on the practice field with his San Francisco 49ers teammates on Wednesday. He is dealing with the lingering ankle injury that kept him out of Week 7 but didn't keep him out of Sunday's game.

The 49ers snapped a four-game losing streak this past weekend, beating the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field. They hope to carry that momentum into Week 9 when they face the Arizona Cardinals at Levi's Stadium. The last time San Francisco won a home game was on October 18, 2020.

On Thursday, reporters saw Williams on the practice field. That bodes well for his potential availability this weekend.

Running back Elijah Mitchell also returned to practice after suffering a rib injury against the Bears and sitting out Wednesday's practice. He wore a blue no-contact jersey.

Another 49ers star who sat out Wednesday's session was wide receiver Deebo Samuel. He was not on the practice field for the early portion of practice — the only part open to reporters. However, the third-year wideout was seen doing some side work as practice kicked off.

Update: Samuel did end up practicing. However, he was limited.

On Wednesday, head coach Kyle Shanahan said he's expecting the team's leading receiver to practice before the week's end and would "be surprised if [Samuel] can't go by Sunday."
