"It will be good to go out there and be full-go today," Shanahan said of Garoppolo. "I know he's limited because we've got to make sure he can do everything. We'll have a much better idea today, but I'm pretty optimistic about it."
Garoppolo is returning from a calf injury suffered in a game against the Seattle Seahawks on October 3. Lance replaced the veteran quarterback in the game and then started the following weekend against the Arizona Cardinals, sustaining a knee sprain. The rookie quarterback's recovery time was estimated to be about one to two weeks.
"We were hoping he could go this week," Shanahan said. "It doesn't look like it. He might have a chance at the end of the week, but I'd be surprised if he's not ready to go until next week."
Typically, San Francisco holds three full practices a week. Coming off their bye week, the team held an extra practice on Monday morning. Garoppolo took part in that bonus session while Lance sat it out.
Shanahan added that defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw (knee) and tackle Trent Williams (elbow, ankle) would not practice. Running back JaMycal Hasty (ankle) will be limited. Linebacker Marcell Harris (thumb) is returning from a visit to the doctor and has a chance to practice today. However, Shanahan felt he wouldn't.
The Niners have lost three consecutive games and are preparing to host the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday at Levi's Stadium.
The 49ers will release an official injury and practice participation report later this afternoon.
