After practice, head coach Kyle Shanahan joined KNBR and provided an update on his eight-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman.
"Trent was good," Shanahan said on the Tolbert, Krueger & Brooks show. "He was able to go out there and practice today, so he'll be good to go on Sunday."
While Shanahan was on the radio, Williams was speaking with reporters and explained how the injury occurred.
"I was trying to go back in and help my guard, and I ended up tripping over his dude's feet," Williams said. "And I just came down on my elbow, but obviously it affected my shoulder."
Judging by Williams' reaction, most felt that it was a more severe injury. The offensive lineman appeared emotional as he was being carted to the locker room.
"Honestly, I didn't think I had to come out," Williams explained. "I got up, and then I think maybe it took me a minute, I don't know, but we were kind of up against the play clock as well, so it was kind of a collective discussion. ... It was fourth down, but I'm not trying to come out on the most important possession of the game.
"When I went to the tent, they were just kind of concerned about the place of all the pain, so they just wanted to go get an X-ray really quick before they sent me back out there. That's why I looked pissed because I felt like that was the worst time to be leaving the game."
Williams was asked if he expected to be playing on Sunday. He laughed and responded, "Yeah, I think so." However, he didn't make a prediction on which quarterback he would be protecting.
Shanahan added that he hopes to get rookie running back Elijah Mitchell back this weekend. While nothing is official on that front, things are trending in that direction.
