The Niners' regular kicker, Robbie Gould, suffered a strained groin during pre-game preparations this past weekend, forcing punter Mitch Wishnowsky to handle the kicking duties during the 28-21 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Wishnowsky missed a 41-yard field goal attempt and one of his two extra-point attempts.
Gould is expected to miss three to five weeks, per head coach Kyle Shanahan. This week, the team will discuss its options, including the possibility of placing their veteran kicker on injured reserve, forcing him to miss three games.
"We're going to see how he reacts this week," Shanahan said on Monday. "When you go on IR you have to miss three games. It's not just three weeks. So that's something we're going to have to decide as this week goes."
San Francisco has a bye week following Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals.
