Will we ever see Jalen Hurd on the field for a regular-season game with the San Francisco 49ers? The wide receiver landed on injured reserve for the third consecutive season of his three-year NFL career. A back injury sidelined Hurd during his rookie year. The receiver suffered a torn ACL during training camp last year.

This time, Hurd is eligible to return. That has left fans with a glimmer of hope that they might actually see the wide receiver on the field at some point this season.


That won't be this weekend, though.

Earlier today, the 49ers officially opened the practice windows for cornerback Davontae Harris and defensive lineman Maurice Hurst. Like Hurd, both landed on injured reserve before Week 1. Hurd landed there 10 days after the others, on September 11.

Hurd is still eligible to return, though. He just needed to miss three games, which he has. However, the 49ers don't feel he has made enough progress to return to the practice field this week.

"He's just not there yet," Shanahan told reporters before today's practice. "The other two guys are ready to go. They'll practice today. And when they're ready, we'll get them up."

The 49ers practice report is due out soon. We won't see Harris' or Hurst's name on that report, though. That is because until San Francisco officially activates them from injured reserve, it is not required to provide reports about their practice statuses.


The Niners are still holding out hope that Hurd can contribute this season. The team used a third-round draft pick in 2019 to add the former Baylor player.
