"We had K'Waun with a calf [injury]," Shanahan said after the game. "He didn't return. And Josh Norman with a chest [injury]. He didn't return."
Norman was spitting up blood, per Garafolo's report. While that's pretty scary, the good news is that the tests on the cornerback came back OK, and Norman remained at the hospital overnight as a precaution.
The 49ers signed the veteran cornerback on September 6. He was thrust into a starting role following the season-ending injury to Jason Verrett.
San Francisco lost Sunday's game 30-28 in the closing seconds. After mounting a nice comeback and eventually taking the lead with 37 seconds left on the game clock, the Niners probably would have benefitted from having Norman and Williams on the field as Rodgers quickly moved his offense into range to kick the game-winning field goal.
Update: Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Norman is dealing with two bruised lungs and tissue damage. That's what caused some of the bleeding mentioned above. Rapoport states that tests are ongoing. However, there is hope that the veteran cornerback might be available for the 49ers' Week 4 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.
