A surprising injury update was that running back Raheem Mostert will miss about eight weeks after sustaining some chipped knee cartilage. He exited the game in the first half and was replaced by rookie Elijah Mitchell.
The 49ers spent two draft picks on running backs. In addition to Mitchell, a sixth-round pick, the team drafted Trey Sermon out of Ohio State in the third round. However, he was inactive on Sunday. That probably won't be the case this coming weekend against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The only other healthy running back is JaMycal Hasty. Jeff Wilson Jr. is on the physically-unable-to-perform (PUP) list with a knee injury and isn't expected to return until later in the season.
"I was expecting him [back] close to the halfway mark, but I can't remember what [the exact timeline] is," Shanahan shared, "I could get a more exact answer for you on that the next time we talk (which will be Wednesday). But since Jeff had his injury, and how it's been going, he's definitely on schedule to come back.
"I think we were saying like weeks six through eight. I just haven't asked for a while. But he's looked great around here, working out, getting ready. I know he'll be helping us sometime this year."
