"He ended up having a small chip on his finger, so he's going to be out about seven days," Shanahan said.
The coach opted not to reveal which finger suffered the injury.
"It wasn't bothering him much because he just thought it was jammed on that helmet," Shanahan continued. "And then when you get all the images on it — they showed it to me — it's a micro-chip of a bone that's off. He chipped it, which is a small-chip fracture, which is worse than a jam. That's why it's not going to just heal on its own without -- I mean, he can't take snaps and do all that stuff right now, so we've just got to rest it for seven days, they say, and that should be it. [Let] it heal, and hopefully, he'll be good next Monday when we get into practice."
Shanahan added that the 49ers will hold practices on Wednesday and Thursday before taking some time off. Obviously, Lance will sit those out. However, neither of those practices will be focused on game preparation for the team's season opener against the Detroit Lions. That will begin next week.
"I don't really honestly even remember what play it happened on," Lance said after the game. "But I think I jammed it on a helmet or something. But yeah, I'm not worried about it. I'll see how it feels tomorrow, for sure. I think we'll be able to tell a little bit more. But yeah, not too worried about it at all."
Shanahan added that tackle Shon Coleman suffered a triceps sprain and will be out "a while." He has yet to take a regular-season snap since being traded to the 49ers in 2018. Coleman landed on injured reserve in 2019 due to a dislocated ankle and fractured fibula. He opted out of last season due to concerns over COVID-19.
Wide receiver Travis Benjamin suffered a concussion against the Raiders and is in the concussion protocol.
