San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan joined KNBR this afternoon and was asked for an update on the third-year receiver.
"Deebo, he had a tight glute today, so he pulled himself out of practice," Shanahan said on the Tolbert, Krueger & Brooks show. "I know he's getting the MRI right now, so I'm in the same boat as you guys are. I'm sitting here waiting to get the news back."
Samuel has appeared in just 22 games during his first two NFL seasons, missing nine in 2020 due to foot and hamstring injuries.
"I've been very happy with Deebo," Shanahan said earlier this month. "He came into camp in as good a shape as I've seen him. You know, he left OTAs not quite there yet, but trending there. And so I was really curious of how he was going to be these 40 days away (before training camp). And just being in shape and stuff, it's the best I've seen him."
You can listen to the entire conversation with Shanahan below.
