Yesterday, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan hinted that his rookie quarterback Trey Lance might get reps with the first-team offense during today's joint practice with the Los Angeles Chargers. That happened, and the media was quick to jump on the news.

During team drills, Lance got to run the first-team offense for an extended drive against the Chargers defense. It was the rookie's first time doing so this offseason.

Lance ended up taking eight consecutive snaps with the ones. He was 3-for-3 in his pass attempts.

"I'd like [Lance] to get some reps with the ones, eventually," Shanahan said yesterday. "I kind of re-evaluate that after each practice, not just so he can get with our ones but also so he can go against the [first-team] defense and stuff.

"We'll see if we do some of that tomorrow. If I do, it would be more trying to get him some reps versus (Joey) Bosa and Derwin (James) and some of those other guys too because there's definitely a difference."

Lance was the first quarterback off the bench during the 49ers' preseason opener this past weekend against the Kansas City Chiefs. The rookie completed 5-of-14 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown.
