The NFL has fined the San Francisco 49ers due to a violation of league rules pertaining to Organized Team Activities (OTAs), according to a report from Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The 49ers are one of three teams being fined for OTA violations, according to Schefter. The others are the Jacksonville Jaguars and Dallas Cowboys. The nature of the 49ers' violation had yet to be disclosed as of 1 p.m. PT, but the team was fined $100,000, while head coach Kyle Shanahan was fined $50,000.

The league hit the Cowboys and head coach Mike McCarthy with identical fines, while the Jaguars and head coach Urban Meyer were fined $200,000 and $100,000, respectively.

The 49ers will also be penalized OTA days in 2022, according to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area.

"The health and safety of our players is our highest priority, and we take following league rules very seriously," the 49ers said in a statement. "We will continue to work with the NFL and the NFLPA to ensure compliance."

Schefter reports the 49ers were ordered by the NFL Management Council to cancel the final week of their 2021 OTAs back in June. Shanahan talked about the early end to OTAs with reporters during a media session on June 5.

"We're totally done. We really finished up our exit meetings today, really with everybody," Shanahan said, per 49ers media. "We're still going to keep the rookies around here for a little bit, some more than others. I kind of decided a while ago we weren't going to do minicamp. You know, I rarely do minicamp when we get nine OTAs in, we usually do one practice and then we have like a team building thing throughout that. And kind of decided earlier in this, if we could get our OTAs in I wasn't going to keep them for minicamp because it's a week longer than usual. I like the guys to get away for 40 days. And we started a week later this year than usual, the whole league did. So they only would have gone away for like 32 days. And I think that does add up.

"So we had such a big turnout too, you know, and I know there was some question around a lot of people around the league. So I didn't know if we didn't have a big turnout I obviously would have kept those guys because I know we had to get some work in. But I mean, we really had 89 people show up to OTAs, which was unbelievable. And the guy who didn't was here since February rehabbing the whole time now with [DL] Dee [Ford] so he just got away because he'd been here since February and he had to get away for just his peace of mind, but having 89 guys here and getting seven OTA practices in I felt great about it. You know, my plan was to get eight. And I was going to surprise them on Thursday and take everyone bowling. But after our seventh practice with those two injuries and just the aura it gave to it, I wasn't going to come back and do one more just to do one more. So I surprised them on day eight instead of day nine."

The NFL also penalized the 49ers in June for a violation of offseason work rules during rookie minicamp. That violation stemmed from a video that showed the 49ers allowing impermissible contact during a minicamp session.
