The jerseys, first hinted at in March, will come during the 75th anniversary of the football team, which will be an exciting element, especially with fans returning to stadiums for the 2021-2022 NFL season.
The 49ers plan to wear the jerseys six times this season, with four being at home and two on the road.
Those matchups are certainly some of the most important on the schedule: Week Three against Green Bay, Week Seven against Indianapolis, Week 10 against the Rams, Week 12 at Seattle, Week 15 against Atlanta, and Week 16 at Tennessee.
With fans coming back to Levi's Stadium for the 2021 NFL season, the 49ers will debut the jerseys in their first home game, which will be on Sunday Night Football as well.
Earlier this offseason, photos leaked of what looked to be an officially licensed Nick Bosa red 49ers throwback jersey, sparking speculation on whether these jerseys would be released sometime this season for the team's 75th anniversary.
The leaked photos showed the red variants of the uniforms, which are patterned after those worn by the last championship team during the 1994 season. Those throwbacks were actually a modernized version of the uniforms worn by the Niners in 1955.
Now, pictures of the jerseys have been released by the team, marking the long-awaited appearance of the red throwbacks.
Team president Al Guido added fuel to the fire earlier this month when asked about potentially bringing out the throwback jerseys during an appearance on 95.7 The Game.
"The best I can say right now is we've got a lot coming for the 75th anniversary," Guido responded, hinting that the fan-favorite uniforms might be part of the plans.
The reveal marks another milestone that the 49ers accomplished during the pandemic, adding to an impressive offseason.
