It looks like Trey Sermon is taking the task seriously. Video has surfaced (h/t to Patrick Tulini) of the rookie running back working on his footwork as he prepares for the rigors of his first NFL training camp.
The 49ers made Sermon a third-round draft pick out of Ohio State. He was the first of two running backs selected. San Francisco also drafted Elijah Mitchell out of Louisiana in the sixth round.
Both rookies are competing for playing time in what is expected to be a strong running back rotation that includes Raheem Mostert at the top of the depth chart.
Mostert recently shared his thoughts on his new rookie teammates and what it has been like mentoring the younger running backs.
"We all challenge each other, they're gonna get the best out of me and I'm gonna try to get the best out of them," Mostert said on SiriusXM NFL Radio. "Especially with the younger guys, Trey and Elijah, those two guys, they're really learning under me right now and they're understanding the game and what it takes to be a pro and they're handling it so well."
