"Jordan Willis of the San Francisco 49ers has been suspended without pay for the first six games of the 2021 regular season for violating the NFL Policy on Performance-Enhancing Substances," an NFL spokesperson said via a statement. "He will be able to participate in all offseason and preseason practices and games.
"Willis will be eligible to return to the 49ers active roster on Monday, Oct. 25, 2021, following the team's Week 7 game vs. Indianapolis."
San Francisco traded for Willis on October 27, 2020, surrendering a 2022 sixth-round pick to the New York Jets for the defender and a 2021 seventh-round pick. Willis registered 13 tackles, two tackles for a loss, five quarterback hits, and 2.5 sacks through seven games with the 49ers last season.
Willis, 26, has recorded 65 tackles, 5.5 sacks, a pass defensed, and a forced fumble through his four NFL seasons.
San Francisco re-signed the defensive end to a one-year deal in March. Willis becomes the fourth player who will be unavailable for the start of the season. Running back Jeff Wilson suffered a torn meniscus in May. Safety Tarvarius Moore (Achilles) and offensive lineman Justin Skule (ACL) were injured on June 7.
