So, Staley commented.
"Kyle already knows exactly how to get him the ball," the former offensive lineman wrote via Twitter.
Of course, Staley is referring to the two seasons 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spent as the offensive coordinator in Atlanta. Jones had his best statistical season in Shanahan's first season there, recording 136 catches for 1,871 yards with eight touchdowns. The receiving yards total still ranks second all-time for a single season, and only two receivers have hauled in more single-season receptions.
Jones hauled in 83 passes for 1,409 receiving yards with six scores the next season, which included a Super Bowl run for the Falcons. After that, Shanahan left to become the head coach of the 49ers.
The Falcons are reportedly open to trading Jones, mostly because of the $23.05 million salary-cap hit he will have in 2021. The Falcons have just over $400,000 of available money, per OverTheCap.com.
Jones is scheduled to earn $15.3 million in base salary in 2021. That's the amount that another team would likely have to absorb. San Francisco currently has nearly $17.7 million in cap space, again, per OverTheCap.com.
