The 49ers made Blair a fifth-round selection out of Appalachian State in 2016. He last played during the 2019 season when he recorded 21 tackles, three sacks, seven tackles for a loss, and three quarterback hits through nine game appearances. That campaign came to an end when Blair suffered an ACL injury in Week 10.
The defender spent all of last season on the physically-unable-to-perform list.
"[He's a] guy who's helped us a ton," head coach Kyle Shanahan said of Blair in December. "I know a lot of people in this league think fairly highly of him, and I know he can play football if his knee's right, and that's something I hope he has better luck with here in this offseason."
It sounds like San Francisco may be monitoring Blair's recovery and is not eliminating the possibility of a return. The defensive lineman has recorded 88 tackles, 13.5 sacks, and a forced fumble through his first four NFL seasons.
