Contract terms have been released for the three-year deal center Alex Mack signed with the 49ers on Thursday. Here's a look at some of the particulars.

It was originally reported that Mack would be signing a one-year deal with the 49ers worth $5.5 million. While the actual terms of the contract differ from those numbers, the guarantees in the contract come close to matching what was first reported.


According to Field Yates of ESPN, Mack's deal is worth $14.85 million overall with a $3.675 signing bonus and $5.6 million guaranteed. Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reports Mack has no guarantees in his contract past this season and is due a $1.425 million base salary for 2021 with a total of $5.5 million due in 2022 and $3.85 million in 2023. Mack also has $400,000 in per-game roster bonuses for 2021.

OverTheCap.com reports slightly lower base salaries in the final two years of the deal — $5 million in 2022 and $3.35 million in 2023 — bringing the overall value of the contract to $14.8 million.

Mack is coming off a five-year, $45 million deal with the Atlanta Falcons, which he played through in its entirety. Mack has made $77.6 million over the course of 12 NFL seasons with the Falcons and Cleveland Browns, according to OverTheCap.com.

2021: $3 million
2022: $6.725 million
2023: $5.075 million


Mack will turn 36 years old in November, so it remains to be seen how much gas he'll have left in the tank past 2021. But it's safe to assume he'll be the starting center for the 49ers for at least the upcoming year, and possibly beyond if things work out this season.

"I don't think I'll make it to 40," Mack told reporters Thursday, "but I'm taking it one year at a time, making sure I feel good, I can play good, I can be a contributor on this team. I played last year in Atlanta and I felt good. I felt like I moved well. I felt like I was still a really good player, and so I decided to come back in free agency and sign here."

Mack comes to the 49ers as a six-time Pro Bowler (2010, 2013, 2015-2018) and a three-time second-team All-Pro (2013, 2016, 2017). He was also a selection to the NFL's 2010s All-Decade Team, along with recently retired Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey.
