Kyle Juszczyk spoke with reporters this week and shared some of the details of his new job. In addition to serving as a fullback for the San Francisco 49ers, he is spending this offseason as a recruiter to make sure the team retains some of its own players and possibly adds some more talent.

"I've made some phone calls," Juszczyk said on Wednesday. "I've shot out some texts. I try to keep it casual, not be overbearing, try to work my way in there, tell them I'm happy with whatever happens, but just so you know, if you were here, you could be that final piece that puts us over the top."


Juszczyk appears to be taking his new job very seriously and has reached out to a former teammate — quarterback Joe Flacco. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported that San Francisco is hosting the longtime Baltimore Raven and evaluating him as a potential backup for Jimmy Garoppolo.

Juszczyk joined KNBR on Thursday and verified that a reunion with Flacco could be in the making.

"Actually, I just got done talking to him a little bit," Juszczyk told Greg Papa and John Lund. "We're both hopeful that something gets done. So, that would be awesome. I can't say enough great things about Joe. What an incredible addition to our locker room he would be. He's just a great guy to work with and someone that would be great for Jimmy, as well.

"I hope it gets done. If it doesn't, I've got confidence that John (Lynch) and Kyle (Shanahan) will find somebody who will be perfect for that role. But I absolutely would love to have Joe back."

Bay Area fans might have to find a way to forgive Flacco for beating the Niners in Super Bowl XLVII, an eight-year-old memory that still stings for many.


"If we can forgive Richard Sherman for everything that he did, I think we can forgive Joe," Juszczyk commented.

The fullback adds that he understands Flacco has endured some injuries in recent years but believes the quarterback has had enough time to heal. Flacco has worked with 49ers quarterback coach Rich Scangarello, who spent a season (2019) as the Denver Broncos offensive coordinator. Juszczyk feels Flacco would have no problem fitting into Kyle Shanahan's offense.

"I talk with Joe regularly, so I know he trains his absolute tail off in the offseason," Juszczyk added.
