Matt Barrows of The Athletic was the first to report the Eagles' interest in Clay, who is also scheduled to or already has interviewed with the New York Jets for a similar position on Robert Saleh's staff.
Update: The Eagles website has announced that Clay is joining the team.
"[Nick] Sirianni is also adding Michael Clay to become special teams coordinator," wrote Dave Spadaro. "Clay worked with the Eagles in the Chip Kelly era and is smart, hard-working, and thorough as a coach."
Clay has spent the past five seasons with the 49ers. He started his coaching career with the Eagles in 2014. Nick Sirianni was hired as Philadelphia's new head coach on January 24.
