You won't have to work too hard to pitch Montana to most San Francisco 49ers fans or anyone who grew up watching the quarterback frustrate opposing defenses while playing in an era that didn't do as much to protect players at his position.
Brady will once again be playing in a conference championship game for the right to appear in yet another Super Bowl. He continues to add to his already impressive resume.
Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice joined 95.7 The Game on Monday morning and was asked to pick between Montana, his long-time teammate, and Brady. Who would he take with the game on the line?
"I'm going to go with Joe Montana because, like I said, it was a different era," Rice responded on The Morning Roast. "Not taking anything away from what's happening today, but you look at the game today, the way it's played, you look at how receivers are protected -- I never thought I would see an era where the running back doesn't have to be on the ground for them to stop the play because this, to me, is supposed to be tackle football.
"So, it's a whole different era, and I would go with Montana any day because he was Joe Cool, and he was in an era where he was not as protected."
Montana won four Super Bowls and was a three-time Super Bowl MVP while playing in what Rice declared a tougher era. That is enough to win the vote from the greatest receiver of all-time.
