Earlier today, Jason La Canfora reported that Peters remains among the top candidates for the general manager opening with the Carolina Panthers. According to the CBS Sports writer, the industry expects the Panthers to lean toward Peters or Seattle Seahawks VP of football operations Scott Fitterer. Peters first spoke with the Panthers last week while Fitterer had his Zoom interview on Monday.
La Canfora notes that Panthers head coach Matt Rhule, Peters, and Fitterer share the same agent. ESPN's Adam Schefter adds that Fitterer will have an in-person interview with the Panthers on Wednesday.
Peters has spent the past four seasons with the 49ers, working closely with general manager John Lynch to build a roster that reached the Super Bowl during the 2019 season. Peters was among the first hires by Lynch in 2017. He spent his previous eight seasons (2009-16) with the Denver Broncos.
Note: This article has been updated to include the plans for a second interview with Peters.
