Kyle Shanahan informed reporters before today's practice that he doesn't expect Sunday's game to be postponed, as was the case for the Thanksgiving matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers. The 49ers head coach feels his team has the situation under control but notes that had they played a game this past weekend, he may have felt differently.
"We've been good in our building for a number of days and stuff," Shanahan said. "It doesn't look like it's getting worse, at least in our building. So, as long as we don't get it in here, [a postponement] would surprise me.
"But it's going to make it tough to practice this week. We've got a number of guys out who probably won't be back for the game. We'll see how that goes."
Shanahan was asked to clarify that he expected at least some of the players currently sitting on the reserve/COVID-19 list to miss this weekend's game.
"Yeah, I expect there to not be guys who can play," Shanahan responded. "I'm just hoping that they can, so we'll see. I know Armstead is going to be allowed to practice tomorrow, so I know we're getting him back tomorrow fully. He was allowed to go through walkthrough today. But the other days? We've got to wait and see. I'm not counting on it, but I'm hoping."
The following 49ers players remain on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
- WR Brandon Aiyuk
- TE Daniel Helm
- DT D.J. Jones
- DL Javon Kinlaw
- LB Joe Walker
- T Trent Williams
- DE Jordan Willis
