- RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) won't play against the Saints. Shanahan hopes to have him back for the team's Week 12 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams — after the bye.
- RB Tevin Coleman (knee) won't play either. Shanahan also hopes to have him back for Week 12.
- LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (hamstring) also won't play this weekend.
- WR Deebo Samuel (hamstring) will not practice today. The team will re-evaluate him tomorrow.
- CB K'Waun Williams (ankle) will be out "for a while." Injured reserve is a possibility (see below).
- WR Trent Taylor (back) won't practice today.
- WR Kendrick Bourne remains on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
- CB Richard Sherman (calf) will practice for the first time since before Week 1.
Today, the 49ers placed safety Jaquiski Tartt on injured reserve due to a turf toe injury.
Shanahan was asked if injured reserve was being considered for Williams, who is dealing with a high-ankle sprain. There is just one problem. The cornerback has already been on injured reserve once this season.
"We don't know yet because he can't go on IR-to-return twice," Shanahan explained. "So he already had that once in the year, so we're trying to evaluate, see how he goes. It's a high-ankle sprain, so that's usually four to six weeks, which will lead him up towards the end of the year. We're not going to put him on if he can't come back because once we do put him on, he can't (return).
"We're just trying to wait that out and see how he reacts here over the next week or so, and to see what our options are with the rest of our roster."
Regarding Sherman, Shanahan hopes to have his veteran cornerback back in time for Week 12 against the Rams.
"I know Doctor Sherm thinks he's got a chance this week," Shanahan added. "And I've been around him enough that that's why I don't count him out on that. But my goal is hopefully to get him back by the Rams. But I won't rule him out for anything because of what his prognosis is."
