To make matters worse, the 49ers learned this week that they would have to push forward without quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle) and tight end George Kittle (foot), possibly for the remainder of the season. Many question whether or not we've seen the last of Garoppolo in a 49ers uniform.
San Francisco is preparing to host the Green Bay Packers at Levi's Stadium on Thursday night in a rematch of the NFC Championship Game from last season.
The Packers are 5.5-point favorites (O/U 50.5) over the 49ers in the upcoming primetime matchup. Green Bay owns a 5-2 record and sits atop the NFC North. Both of the Packers' losses have come over the last three games.
The Minnesota Vikings beat the Packers 28-22 on Sunday.
Green Bay will be without rookie running back A.J. Dillon, who tested positive for COVID-19, potentially exposing running back Jamaal Williams and linebacker Kamal Martin. None of the three players will be available on Thursday night, and running back Aaron Jones' (calf) status remains unclear.
This game is the third consecutive one that the 49ers enter as underdogs against their opponent. The last time San Francisco was favored came before a Week 5 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. Kyle Shanahan's squad ended up losing 43-17.
San Francisco looks to turn things around on a short week.
"We've got a game in three or four days, and so you just don't have a lot of time to do everything you're used to doing in a regular week," defensive lineman Arik Armstead said after Sunday's game. "So, we've got to move on pretty quick and get on to Green Bay."
Kickoff between the 49ers and Packers is scheduled for 5:20 p.m. PT on Thursday.
