The coach provided the following injury updates.
- Wide receiver Deebo Samuel suffered a hamstring strain and is likely to miss the next two games (Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers).
- Running back Jeff Wilson Jr. suffered a high-ankle sprain. He is headed to injured reserve this week. Shanahan expects Wilson to miss about a month.
- Wide receiver Richie James suffered an ankle sprain but is day-to-day.
- Shanahan hopes Tevin Coleman (knee) can return from injured reserve this week. He called his status a "late-end-of-the-week decision."
Samuel exited Sunday's win over the New England Patriots in the fourth quarter with his 49ers leading by 24 points. The injury came on a play that saw the receiver take a one-yard toss from quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and proceed to the 14-yard line, setting up kicker Robbie Gould for the 32-yard field goal.
Samuel finished the game with five catches for 65 yards and three carries for seven yards. He is in his second season with San Francisco.
"The physicality our receivers bring to the game, starting with Deebo, really helps our offense," Shanahan said. "We'll miss him when he's out, that's for sure."
San Francisco made Samuel a second-round draft pick out of South Carolina last year. The receiver has 16 catches for 185 yards and a touchdown while adding six carries for 14 rushing yards through four games this season. He missed the first three games while recovering from an offseason foot injury.
Wilson's injury came in the third quarter while rushing for his third touchdown of the game. He walked off the field with a slight limp and was then carted to the locker room for further tests.
Wilson finished the game with 112 rushing yards on 17 carries and two catches for eight yards. The undrafted free agent out of North Texas, now in his third NFL season, has 162 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns on 38 carries and six receptions for 75 yards and another score through five games this season.
