"It's looking like that's going to be the case," Shanahan said this morning on KNBR. "I definitely can't make that decision just off yesterday. ... Thursday was a lot better than Wednesday. If today continues that way, then I think it will be looking pretty good."
If Garoppolo can't play, it will be either Nick Mullens or C.J. Beathard. Shanahan isn't revealing which, though, because he doesn't want to give the Dolphins any advantage. The 49ers, after all, are sitting at 2-2 and looking to earn their first home win of the season.
Shanahan did share which quarterback has gotten most of the reps in practice this week, but explains why you shouldn't read too much into it.
"We're [hoping] for Jimmy, as you know that," Shanahan said. "C.J. got most of the reps this week, just because Nick's gotten most of them the last three weeks. But both of those guys are going to be capable to go. Excited, if Jimmy doesn't go, for you guys to find out (who will start) on Sunday."
The 49ers have one more full practice scheduled for today. Official team injury and practice participation reports are due out in a couple of hours.
You can listen to the entire conversation with Shanahan below.
