The play came at around the 30-second mark in the first quarter with the Eagles up 8-0. Aiyuk took the ball on a lateral from quarterback Nick Mullens, then weaved his way through the Eagles defense until he encountered safety Marcus Epps at the seven-yard line. From there, Aiyuk made a leap over Epps that put him in the end zone and on this week's list of top plays from around the NFL.
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan wasn't thrilled about much after the game, but he did have some rave reviews for what he saw from Aiyuk.
"I thought the touchdown was a hell of a play. It was a really good play," Shanahan said. "I thought we could get the first with the look we had, but for him to turn that into a touchdown was an unbelievable play."
The touchdown run is the most exciting play in the three games Aiyuk has played in the NFL, but it seems like it's just the start of more highlights to come from the 49ers' first-round pick. Aiyuk has two rushing touchdowns to go with nine catches on the season, two of which came in the loss to the Eagles.
"It seemed like he did some good things out there," Shanahan said. "I'll see more when I watch the tape. But when we went to him, I thought he did his job."
