San Francisco 49ers quarterback C.J. Beathard spoke with reporters after Sunday night's 25-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Here is everything he had to say.

Without getting many reps during training camp and the last couple of weeks, how are you so comfortable back there?

"Honestly, I just give credit to me being in my fourth year in the system. It's night and day compared to last time I was in there playing in the regular season. Just feels comfortable. You know, the more you go through the plays, the more you're in the offense. It just gets a lot more comfortable."

Like you said, this is your fourth year. How would you describe the state of this team right now? You guys came off two big wins in New York and then this is your second home loss.

"Yeah. I mean, no one is panicking. I think we're right, I mean, we're good where we're at. I mean, two losses, we're two-and-two right now. And, that's just the fact of the matter. We're a two-and-two football team and we've got Miami next week and all we've got to do is go to work this week and get back on a winning schedule. So, no one's panicking though."

Were you surprised to get the call there in the fourth quarter and did you really have much chance to warm up before you started, you had your first net?


"I wouldn't say I was necessarily, I mean, I guess I was a little surprised, but I wasn't like caught off guard by it. You prepare as if you're going to be in there playing. But, when [quarterbacks coach] Shane [Day], our quarterbacks coach, told me, he asked me if I was warm and I'd been warming up throughout the game. I always do. And I told him, 'Yeah, I'm good.' And it was right after that the next, the kickoff, and then I was in there."

I'm just wondering about the intricacies of the clock management. Was it imperative that you guys try to score before the two-minute warning there, for that first score, was that something being talked about?

"Actually, no. We never really mentioned it. I mean, I had it in the back of my mind there was a, that stop clockage or like two minutes, nine seconds left and we knew the ball, when [WR Kendrick Bourne] KB, they reviewed and KB was down. We knew the clock was going to start, so we wanted to be on the ball and ready to snap it just so hopefully we score there, which we did. And then we still had the two-minute warning."

How would you describe that experience just from an emotional perspective, coming into a game with those sort of stakes in an empty stadium? What was that like?

"It felt great to be in there. It's been a while since I got my last real game reps. It's been over a year. It just felt good to be back in there and being there with the guys and taking some meaningful snaps. And that's really all I can say. It felt good."


Can you walk us through what you saw on the two-point conversion that you missed there and did you feel like you had a chance to run it in that maybe you missed there?

"Yeah, I mean, so that play we put it in this week and it was a zone read and then we were just trying to pop [TE] George [Kittle] the ball. He was going to sell like he was blocking and then hit George like real quick. And that's the way we repped it all week. Obviously, looking back on it now, I wish I would have ran it because it was incomplete. I think nine times out of 10, we make that play. We complete it and make that play. We just didn't make it there."
