San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle entered tonight's game against the Philadelphia Eagles with 2,989 career regular-season receiving yards, just 11 yards shy of the 3,000-yard milestone. He surpassed that mark in the first quarter and did so in only 47 career games.

Kittle tied Rob Gronkowski for the third-fewest games played by a tight end in NFL history to reach 3,000 receiving yards. Mike Ditka and Kellen Winslow tied for the fastest to reach 3,000 yards by a tight end, doing so in 45 games.


The 49ers made Kittle a fifth-round draft pick out of Iowa in 2017. The team locked him up to a five-year, $75 million contract extension in August.

In addition to his 2,989 receiving yards, Kittle entered tonight's game with 12 touchdowns and has averaged 13.6 yards per reception over his career.

Kittle returned to the football field on Sunday night after missing the past two games due to an MCL sprain and bone bruise. Before kickoff, the tight end was welcomed back by one of his idols.
