Tomorrow's practice will just be a walk-through. Typically, missing each full practice in the days preceding a game would reduce a player's chances of playing — especially a new player. Sanu, however, is familiar with head coach Kyle Shanahan's offense, having played within it during his time with the Atlanta Falcons.
That, combined with the injury concerns at the position, could mean fans get to see Sanu out on the field against the New York Jets.
Shanahan joined KNBR on Thursday and was asked if Sanu might play on Sunday.
"Yeah, it is possible," Shanahan responded on the Tolbert, Krueger & Brooks show. "He's been here on Zoom meetings. He's not allowed in our building until tomorrow. Tomorrow is just a walk-through, but we're hoping to get five receivers up, and he's on our roster, so he'd be our guy right now.
"As long as he can come in — we get to talk to him tomorrow — I expect him to dress and at least be out there to help us out if need be."
Sanu has caught 403 passes for 4,507 yards with 26 touchdowns through his eight NFL seasons. He registered 59 receptions for 520 yards with two touchdowns through 15 games between the Falcons and New England Patriots last season.
