San Francisco 49ers left tackle Trent Williams explained on Thursday what a handful rookie defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw can be during practices. The seven-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman didn't limit the scouting report to the interior of the 49ers defensive line. He also explained what it's like practicing against elite pass rushers Nick Bosa and Dee Ford.

Of course, you've probably already read about Williams praising Bosa this offseason. The matchup was one of the most anticipated of training camp, and it lived up to the hype. What was interesting to hear was Williams compare the two edge rushers, who each bring different things to the table but both spell trouble for opposing offensive linemen.


"Bosa, we battle. ... We make adjustments," Williams told Greg Papa and John Lund during a Thursday afternoon KNBR interview. "We're both cerebral players. We make adjustments to each other pretty much every rep. So he's definitely a generational talent, one of those guys that don't come along too often, of course.

"Like I've said before, I'm just blessed to get a chance to work that closely with a talent like that, where even if you do lose, it's no harm, no foul because he's not playing your quarterback. It's kind of good to get that type of work."

While Bosa is a talented second-year player and the reigning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, Ford is a seasoned veteran who was limited by injuries last season. He still managed to reach opposing quarterbacks 6.5 times.

"With Dee, very different rusher, very different type of rusher," Williams explained. "But the speed he has off the edge is elite. He has very underrated power that he can use. Nice long arms that people generally don't even talk about in the scouting reports. He puts it all together, and he's really tough to deal with."

Iron sharpens iron. Williams feels going against both Bosa and Ford has helped knocked off some of the rust from having missed last season.


"So having those two guys smoking off the edge, it tallies up to one of the best pass rushes that you will get in this NFL," added Williams.
