News of the restructure was first reported by Field Yates of ESPN.
San Francisco agreed to terms on a one-year deal with Compton in March and officially announced the signing in April. The offensive lineman has been competing for the starting right guard job. The move may indicate that the 49ers plan to start Daniel Brunskill at that spot.
Washington made Compton a sixth-round selection out of South Dakota in 2012. He has 99 game appearances and 34 starts through his eight NFL seasons. The offensive lineman also spent time with the New York Jets, Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears, and Atlanta Falcons.
Compton started five games with the Jets last season before landing on injured reserve on December 28, 2019. He had a career-high 14 starts at left guard with the Vikings in 2018, missing two games with a knee injury.
