"For me, I haven't thought about it much," Shanahan said via Zoom, "but I'm expecting that we can still go there and stay there, and I think we're going to stay at The Greenbrier in between for a week. I believe that has been approved.
"No one's told me that we're not doing it. Usually, someone tells me if something bad has happened, and no one has told me, so I'm counting on that to work out right now."
The East Coast stay would mean significantly less travel for the 49ers and no need to adjust to a new timezone for that Week 3 matchup.
Last year, the 49ers stayed in Youngstown, Ohio, between Weeks 1 and 2. The team emerged from its road trip with a 2-0 record.
San Francisco stayed in Florida between Weeks 13 and 14, again winning the second game of that two-game series — a thriller against the New Orleans Saints. The 49ers lost the first matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, though.
