The Niners held a lengthy and physical practice on Wednesday, and plan to hold Friday's session on the Levi's Stadium field.
"I don't expect [Friday's practice] to be much different, but it gives all our guys a chance to go through the process of what you do in preseason," head coach Kyle Shanahan said this week.
Walk-throughs are closed to the media, so there will be no coverage of the players' performances from reporters today.
San Francisco has endured several injuries at key positions, and this change will likely provide more recovery time for those who are nicked up.
While several sports teams, including the local San Francisco Giants and numerous NBA teams, have opted to skip games in response to the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Wisconsin, it is unknown if the 49ers' switch was at least partially influenced by the incident.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan and select players are still scheduled to speak to reporters via Zoom later this morning, so they will be asked then.
