"A year ago, we really didn't know our identity," Mostert said. "We had some idea of the type of guys that we had in the locker room. We didn't necessarily know how to put it all together. And then that changed instantly once we got to that first game against the Bucs.
"You could just see how we all lifted each other, how we all worked out with each other, how we all were hanging out after meetings and all that type of stuff; going to dinner with each other's families. That just correlated into an unbelievable season that we had last year."
The 49ers dominated in the playoffs and came just short of winning the Super Bowl. Along the way, Mostert had a record-setting performance against the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game, rushing for 220 yards and four touchdowns while averaging an impressive 7.6 yards per carry.
San Francisco had its losses this offseason, like Pro Bowl defensive tackle DeForest Buckner. Mostert feels the 49ers did an excellent job of offsetting that loss with the selection of Javon Kinlaw. He also notes that the team replaced retired tackle Joe Staley with seven-time Pro Bowl selection Trent Williams.
"We're full steam ahead, and we know we have unfinished business," Mostert added. "That's our mantra right now, is unfinished business and get back to the dance and win it too. This team is unbelievable, and I'm excited to be a part of it."
