Sweet (6-6, 313) entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of North Carolina with the Arizona Cardinals in 2019. The Cardinals waived/injured him on August 31, 2019, and he reverted to injured reserve, where he spent the entirety of last season.
Arizona waived the offensive lineman on February 18.
Sweet, 23, appeared in 26 games with 14 starts for the Tar Heels from 2015 through 2018. As a junior in 2018, he started 10 games along the offensive line and helped North Carolina average 442.1 total yards of offense and 193.0 rushing yards per game.
San Francisco had two offensive linemen, Shon Coleman and Jake Brendel, opt-out of the 2020 season due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.
